Otorhinolaryngology (ENT)

Goals

The goals of the Department are to follow the vision and mission of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and to give efficient health care and carry out quality research activity.

Strengths

Adequate, efficient and well trained faculty with excellent team work and cooperation. Well equipped with speciality clinics like Voice clinic consisting of a stroboscopy unit, Vertigo clinic with a modern electronystagmograph and Video Head Impulse Testing System, Sleep Lab, Audiology department, facility for micro ear surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, micro laryngeal surgery.

Plans

The future plans are to motivate the staff to achieve goals of improving teaching skills, involvement in community oriented services, participation in surgical workshops and conferences and generating more scientific publications and research work.

Community Activity
  1. School health education regarding Noise Induced Hearing Loss and evaluation of hearing in high risk population has been conducted.

  2. The Institution has established 20 rural health centres, of which 14 are attached to the medical college. These rural centres provides secondary and tertiary level treatment to the community around, annually around 50,000 people are treated. Patients requiring advanced treatment are brought to the 1000 bedded teaching hospital of the college. Interns and postgraduate students are posted for training in these centres, staff members provide visit to these centres.

Services

Following services are provided by the department

  • 24hrs emergency services, OPD facility on all week days (9 to 4.30), Sundays from (9-1).

  • Endoscopic facility both in OT & OPD.

  • Video stroboscopy services to diagnosed various voice disorders.

  • Electronystagrography to detect balance disorders.

  • Microscopic facility in the OPD to diagnose various ear disorders.

  • Sleep study in sleep lab in collaboration with department of pulmonary medicine.

  • Speech therapy.

  • Audiology services.

  • Hearing aid trials.

  • Neonatal screening programmes.

  • Speech and voice analysis/services.

  • Investigative facilities like Nerve conduction, EMG, BERA, Video Impulse test, Stroboscopy facility, evaluation of sleep apnoea syndrome, Newborn screening for hearing etc.

  • Otological Surgeries, Head & Neck surgery, Microlaryngeal surgery, Endoscopic sinus surgeries are provided apart from routine ENT surgeries.
