Basaveshwara Medical College and Hospital marked World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week with a series of meaningful activities and programs. Over the past week, the institution organized various competitions and awareness initiatives aimed at educating students about antimicrobial resistance and its global impact.
The event culminated in a grand program today, graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Basavakumar Swamiji as the chief guest. Dr. Ravindra, District Health Officer (DHO), also attended and shared his valuable insights. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ravindra emphasized the importance of prudent antibiotic use and encouraged patients to move away from the misconception that visiting a hospital guarantees immediate recovery.
Dr. Basavakumar Swamiji highlighted the need for informed practices in healthcare and agriculture. He stressed that proper usage of pesticides in farming and mindful prescription of medicines by healthcare professionals are crucial steps to combat antimicrobial resistance. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) global call to action under the theme “Aware, Advocate, Act” was a focal point of the discussions.
As part of the awareness efforts, an awareness march is being organized on November 27, in collaboration with Basaveshwara Medical College and Hospital and affiliated organizations. The march will commence from Gandhi Circle and conclude at the District Collector’s Office, aiming to amplify the message about the dangers of antibiotic misuse.
In addition to raising awareness, the event also celebrated the creativity and enthusiasm of students who participated in various competitions throughout the week. Prizes were distributed to the winners during the program.
The program was attended by Dean Dr. Prashanth G, Medical Superintendents Dr. Rajesh M.S., Dr. Nagendra Gowda M.R., Dr Sudhindra K. S., Dr. Shubha B. S., along with teaching and non-teaching staff, and a large number of students.
